Radon Assessment & Mitigation
Professional radon testing and mitigation system design to protect occupants and meet transaction requirements.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. It enters buildings through soil and foundation cracks and is undetectable without testing.
Tetra provides professional radon testing and mitigation design for residential and commercial properties. Testing is frequently required during real estate transactions, and many lenders and buyers are increasingly aware of radon as a material risk factor.
If testing reveals levels at or above the EPA action level of 4 pCi/L, we design a site-specific mitigation system — typically sub-slab depressurization — to reduce concentrations to acceptable levels. We can also support oversight of mitigation contractor installation and conduct post-mitigation verification testing.
EPA Action Level
The EPA recommends mitigation when indoor radon levels reach or exceed 4 pCi/L. Levels between 2–4 pCi/L should also be considered for mitigation.
